Questions of VAT I am looking to establish a UK Pvt Limited Company - just a couple of questions that I need help with before I'm on my way. Firstly, the business being established in an online (subscription based) newsletter. Expected sales in the first year will be around £40,000. My questions are: 1) Would I need to register for VAT? 2) I have limited use for a conventional bank account, since all my business is carried out online, and I could conduct all business over the internet. Opening Moneybookers and Paypal account is fairly simple. Of course, if the procedure for opening a conventional account is simple I would do so. So my two questions are: 1) Is a business bank account required by law, and must it be in the UK? 2) Would my physical presence in the UK be essential to opening such an account? Cheers. 30.05.2007

  2. Corporate (business) bank account can be ANYWHERE, in ANY COUNTRY of the World.
  3. We can open for you a corporate bank account in the High Street Bank (eg. HSBC), IF YOU WANT, without your presence here.

UK VAT THE ANSWERS ARE:
  1. It doesn't matter in which country of Europe English LTD is registered for VAT.
If the annual turnover is expected to be over £61,000 in the first twelve months, the UK Company needs to be VAT registered here.
If the company is also operating from Italy , it may have to set up a branch there or register locally there for VAT purposes.
The easy way to setup everything in England: bank, accounting, VAT Returns. This way if all operations are controlled and managed outside the United Kingdom - they are not taxable in the United Kingdom.
  2. You can work with European supplies and claim your VAT Returns.
